Ed Moore

Ed Moore's daughter, Vicki.

Vicki did finish #1 in the class of 2008
academically, #1 in military ranking and #1
overall. She also found time to win 11 Varsity
letters and 8 N stars. She was named the Patriot
League Indoor Women's track and field
scholar-athlete of the year and the Patriot League
Outdoor Women's track and field scholar-athlete of
the year for 2008. She was named to the USA Today
All Academic Team (second team). She was awarded a
Mitchell Scholarship (Dublin City University) and an
NCAA post-graduate scholarship for a graduating
varsity athletes (1 of 29 awarded nationally). She
also served as the 20th Company Commander this last
semester.

Yesterday, Vicki found out that the 20th Company was
selected as the Color Company for 2008. I believe
she will be the first female to serve as the Color
Company Commander. As you all remember, the Color
Ceremony is held during the Color Parade as part of
Commissioning Week. Normally the Color Company
Commander has his date attend in a formal white
gown. Yesterday, Vicki asked that I stand with her
during the ceremony. I am not going to wear a
formal white gown, but I will be in a white tuxedo!
I think I will be only the second male to serve in
this capacity in Academy history. The first being a
general back in the 1870's. Someone needs to track
that down. Anyway it looks like 5th Company '70
will finally be recognized during this year's Color
Ceremony. If you recollect, 5th Company was barely
edged out for dead-last place in the Color
Competition in 1970. We finished 35th! I'm sure we
are all still proud of that fact and still wonder
who edged us out!

Anyway I thought you might want to know. Watch the
news and maybe you will see a 5 second news clip on
TV - at least locally! If you are in the area and
want to attend the Parade, the drinks will be on me
afterward - location to be determined!

Beat Army!
